Cricket: Kumble Gets Sri Lanka in a Spin

Anil Kumble took two quick wickets to leave Sri Lanka 123-5 chasing 436 for victory.
Two quick wickets for Anil Kumble's leg-spin moved India into a strong position against Sri Lanka going into the final day in the second Test in New Delhi yesterday.

Sri Lanka, set a seemingly impossible victory target of 436 runs after India had declared on 375 for six, lost Avishka Gunawardene lbw for nine to Irfan Pathan in the seventh over but a second-wicket stand of 79 between Marvan Atapattu and Kumar Sangakkara, which moved the score on to 109, lifted the tourists.

However after Ajit Agarkar had dismissed Sangakkara for 33, Kumble sent back Atapattu for 67 and Malinga Bandara for a duck with the score on 119. India's off-spinner Harbhajan Singh then dismissed Thilan Samaraweera, out for nought on the day's final ball. Mahela Jayawardene, unbeaten on nine, was at the other end as Sri Lanka fell to 123 for five, still 313 runs adrift, at stumps.

The rain-marred first Test in Chennai ended in a draw and the final match of the series starts in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
