Board Faces Cash Crisis
The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association is in the red after becoming too dependent on the Beeb.
Monday's AGM of the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association will examine a balance sheet showing an operating loss of £459,218 for the year ending last June 30, at which point its funds were £112,199 in the red.
The figures show the game's dependency on the BBC television contract, which is worth around £5m annually and comes up for renewal at the end of next season. Prize money for the world circuit has fallen to £3,096,800 this season.
Apart from Jim McMahon, the WPBSA board, chaired by Sir Rodney Walker, faces re-election, although only Peter Ebdon's seat is thought to be at risk.
