Winona Ryder: Drug Addict?
The big question on everyone’s mind since she was arrested and convicted of shoplifting is ‘Why did Winona Ryder do it?’
No one from Ryder’s camp is speaking up, especially Ryder who declines to comment on the reason behind the madness. Others have speculated as to why. Boredom. Just to see if she could. Attention deficit disorder (according to Courtney Love). Drugs. Why would a woman who has money, fame and seemingly everything risk throwing it all away? Drugs would be a sure bet as to the "why." Seems Miss Ryder (a.k.a. Emily Thompson, one of her aliases) has a bit of a problem.
Ryder’s attorney did not want Ryder’s 27-page probation report released to the public, but the document was made public after the actress was sentenced. It reports that Ryder "obtained 37 prescription drug scripts in three years with a lot of help from her friends – 20 doctors and six personal aliases." Attorney Mark Geragos did agree that Ryder has a "pain-management" problem in court on Friday, but others say it goes beyond that. Beverly Hills Police Detective George Elwell recommended that Ryder be ordered to undergo an "intervention" and told probation officers that he believes the 31-year old actress has a "flat-out drug problem."
There was a phone tip that Ryder has had a "heroin problem for the past decade." This has been dismissed as hearsay, but when Ryder was arrested she was found in possession of a syringe, an Aleve bottle filled with (no Aleve) Vicoprofen, Vicodin, morphine sulphate, Percodan, and a yellow plastic pill box containing Valium and Percocet, according to officials. Around her local Rite Aid she was known as Emily Thompson. The report says that Ryder describes herself as a "near teetotaler" who drinks alcohol "once in awhile" and abstains from non-prescription illegal drugs. Oh ok…she just seems to be addicted to every other drug known to man.
