Desperate Housewives Fires Man in the Basement
ABC confirmed Tuesday that actor Page Kennedy, who played Caleb or the guy in Betty’s basement, was fired from the show.

Newcomer Kennedy was canned Friday for "improper behavior" after a "thorough investigation by the studio of the allegations against him" according to the show’s publicist Janet Daily. Desperate Housewives is produced by Disney’s Touchstone Television. No official details of the allegations were given, but a source said that the "alleged misconduct" did not involve another cast member. Kennedy’s rep has yet to make a statement. Daily confirmed that the role would be recast.
Kennedy, 28, joined the show this season and was only briefly seen as the captive, Caleb, in Betty Applewhite’s (Alfre Woodard) basement. Initially thought to be Betty’s husband, it was later suggested that Caleb was Betty’s son who appears to be developmentally disabled and may be involved in the murder of a teenage girl. Kennedy’s final appearance will take place this Sunday when his character is shown escaping from the basement.
Last month, Kennedy said in an interview that the role on the show represented the chance of "making a name for myself." He said he turned down a recurring role on Showtime’s Barber Shop and parts on other upcoming series for the chance to appear on the hit show. He said, "I needed this opportunity to play this kind of character." Kennedy said in a recent interview that the series is "the biggest exposure I have gotten." Now he will have that much more exposure for being the guy that got kicked off the show and blowing his big break. Who knows though, in Hollywood, all exposure is good exposure!
