Major League Rugby season reaches crescendo

While most domestic competitions enjoy a hiatus until next spring, the Major League Rugby season is gearing up for its biggest game of the year.
The Major League Rugby season has reached its climax with two of the three end of season championships being decided.

In the Plate Final, the Back Bay Sharks from Orange County in southern California were up against northern Virginia club NOVA. Back Bay and NOVA had emerged victorious from the semi-finals, so everything pointed to an enthralling finale.

The game lived up to its billing with some excellent running rugby on display. It was a multiple try day and in the end Back Bay ran out eventual winners 30-20.

In the Bowl Final, it was a showdown between the Dallas Reds and Greater Omaha GOATS from Nebraska.

The Reds and GOATS finished the best of the third placed teams in the Tri-Series semi-finals, but the final scoreline heavily favored the Midwesterners. The GOATS took home the spoils in a lopsided final by the tune of 28-0.

The Cup Final between northern California team Hayward and the Austin Blacks from Texas promises to be a corker.

Hayward, a former US national clubs championship winner, swept all before it during the Tri-Series preliminary rounds and went on with the job through the Cup quarter-finals and semis. Austin on the other hand is one of the stronger clubs in Texas and has racked up some impressive scores against their opponents along the way to the final.

The game is due to be played in Las Vegas in either mid-November or mid-December.
