England captain Nasser Hussain has conceded that Darren Gough might miss the entire Ashes series against Australia.

Hussain stopped short of definitely ruling Gough, but admitted he was concerned with the Yorkshire fast bowler's long-term future.

"It's been going on for a year or so and Darren is very disappointed," Hussain told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"We need to get him right. It sounds blasé but I'm not worried about the Ashes as far as Darren goes now. I'm just worried about getting Darren back."

Gough, who has undergone three knee operations in the past year, has already been ruled out of the first test starting in Brisbane on Thursday.

The 32-year-old Yorkshireman, who has not played Test cricket since the Ashes tour last year, reported swelling in his knee after bowling in the nets on Saturday and will now undergo further intensive treatment.
