All about Rubies

We associate the color red with love and passion; it is no wonder that rubies have always been among the most popular of gemstones. Their red shades vary from light to dark and they have different undertones, but to me that only adds to the charm and individuality of each stone.
All about Rubies
The ruby is a gemstone of the corundum family and is attractive because of its brilliance, especially so if it is crystal clear and transparent. Rubies are red members of the corundum family of minerals. Corundum of any other color–blue, pink, yellow, others–are called sapphire. One of the hardest minerals, rubies are the most durable gemstones that have been in demand since ancient times.

Although nearly all rubies are treated with heat to improve their colour and clarity, it is interesting to note that like the ruby, many stones are known to have healing properties. Most of the times, rubies are worn by people who either consider their lives to be too easy, or are perceived as laid back in life. Many a times you’d find people like these to be extremely bright, but they just do not know how to get their ways in the world. In short, they lack aggression. Such signs may either be some fire signs or even air signs, as these are signs that are prone to dwindling away from their goals. Signs that fall under this category are either Leo’s or sometimes, even Librans.

An interesting thing to note is that Rubies because they are red in colour make you feel energetic and aggressive, make that grossly aggressive. These are sometimes worn by Leos, as Lions and lionesses are known to roam around with huge egos. Of course we all know that an ego got you nowhere, so to maintain that level of aggression for them to achieve their goals in life, Leos are allowed to wear Rubies for some spans of their life. Wearing rubies also covers all your blood related and iron deficiencies, but a word of caution, that rubies need to be worn after astrological consultation, else they could create havoc in your life.

For most Librans, the diamond is the suggested stone, however, it is also true that some of them are so deeply involved in their analysis that they forget the implementation aspect of their study. Rubies are therefore suggested to these who suffer from a paralysis of analysis. But like a Blue Sapphire can only be worn after proper consultation, so is the case with a ruby!

This is so because ruby is in reality a red sapphire, it comes from the same family of sapphires, though unlike the blue sapphire, the ruby fiercely possess all opposite qualities, in comparison to the Blue Sapphire. Rubies brings in a certain fire that seeps through the body of the wearer and makes you a more "action oriented" person, as against a blue sapphire, which is known to be a cold stone. They can also bring in huge tempers for people who are not known to possess one.

Where Rubies Are Found
Burmese rubies are among the most beautiful examples. Other important sources of quality rubies include Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Thailand, Vietnam, Kenya, and Afghanistan. Rubies of varying quality are found in other parts of the world, including the United States.

Types
Some translucent rubies cut into cabochons (smooth domes) produce a star with six rays that stretch across the domed surface. Such a ruby is known as a "Star Ruby" Rubies either cabochons or faceted ones are both known to be equally powerful. Some emit such a fire that the very presence of a person wearing ruby can be electrifying, so much so that it might cause the others around to be either hugely petrified or rather uncomfortable. Unlike most stones that can be passed on from one generation to the other, it cannot be guaranteed for rubies to have such a fate. Apart form the fact that large, high-quality, natural rubies are very rare and expensive and should be accompanied by a report from a major gem lab that certifies their authenticity, it is also true that it may create marital havoc, amongst spouses if worn without consulted.

Although there are many types of synthetic rubies, especially created for wearers who cannot get the mystic red colour out of their site, like many popular gemstones, some synthetic rubies are difficult to distinguish from gemstones formed in nature. But if you must wear one, buy it from reputable dealers who know what they are selling and who disclose all treatments that have been performed on the gemstones. So in case you are one of those who are just too fascinated by the blood red colour, try testing it before you purchase one. In fact even if you’ve thought of naming your little one buy the name "Ruby", be sure to have loads of patience to last you for a life time!
