Jessica Simpson & Nick Lachey: Bitter Battle?

It has been reported that there was no pre-nuptial agreement between the couple so they will have to split everything 50-50. That works out for Lachey who stands to make bank off the alimony payments. As for Simpson, who reportedly has earned millions more than her husband with her cosmetics and clothing lines, it may not work out so well. Reportedly, Papa Simpson has already started complaining about the alimony payments. A source said, "A while back Joe was complaining to everyone who would listen about all the alimony Jessica would have to pay Nick." Sources say things could get ugly.

As far as things turning ugly between the two, a friend of Lachey’s says that won’t happen. The friend was quoted as saying, "As far as Nick is concerned he’s going to keep things very clean and he’s adamant that he’s not going to get involved in any mudslinging and name calling. He just wants to be able to move on to living the rest of his life with as much dignity as he can." Although Nick has hired a top-notch celebrity divorce attorney in the event that they do battle it out in court.

According to sources, both Nick and Jessica are doing well since announcing the split. Said a pal of Lachey’s, "Nick seems relieved that it’s all finally out in the open. I think he feels he can now start getting on with his own life at last. He’s really sad that things didn’t work out between them but it hasn’t been working for a very long time and it’s probably been torturous to keep things together for so long." Simpson’s sister Ashlee reportedly said, "Jessica’s doing great! We all had a good Thanksgiving, all the family was together and we had a wonderful time. We didn’t even talk about Jessica’s break-up from Nick. It wasn’t something we wanted to dwell on. Jessica’s happy and she’s absolutely fine." Absolutely fine, huh?!
