Michael Jackson: No Charges for Jacko’s Baby Dangling

The Berlin police announced Friday that there will be no further investigation into Michael Jackson’s baby-dangling incident.
Jackson’s much-publicized stunt early last week resulted in police officials investigating pictures and video tape of the King of Pop waving his youngest son over the balcony of a hotel. Jackson emerged from his fourth floor room at the Adlon Hotel carrying nine-month old Prince Michael II whose head was covered in a white towel. He then lifted Number 3 (as the tyke is known) with one hand over the balcony briefly. It appeared that the baby would wiggle out of Jackson’s grasp, but he managed to pull the baby back up and they retreated into the hotel room.

The episode shocked the crowd, made headlines and topped all newscasts worldwide. Child advocacy groups went crazy and the tabloids painted images of child abuse. The gloved one’s camp issued a statement by Jackson - "I offer no excuse for what happened. I made a terrible mistake. I got caught up in the excitement of the moment." Child protection agencies in New York and California (where Jackson has residences) were unable to take action due to the incident occurring outside their jurisdiction. All the bad publicity prompted Berlin officials to look into the matter. Officials said they "found no evidence of wrongdoing and declined to pursue the case."

Fans of the singer rushed to his defense, saying there was a "media conspiracy" against him. Blah, blah, blah…if he had dropped the child, would they be saying the same thing?! Would it have been the media’s fault that Jackson dropped his infant son? Fortunately, he did not. As reported, Jackson was in Berlin to be awarded a Bambi Award for his work on behalf of children from the Burda publishing company as well as to be recognized as "pop artist of the millenium." As of late, his increasingly bizarre behavior has earned him more headlines than his music efforts. Maybe that is the point, maybe he has run out of steam musically and mutilating his face and "endangering" his children’s lives keeps him in the spotlight.
