Harry Potter Shatters Records

After Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’s astonishing opening weekend take of $90.3 million, a remarkable five-day holiday weekend raked in another $83.5 million.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone raked in an estimated $90.3 million dollars in its opening weekend and returned for a five-day holiday weekend bringing in another $83.5 million. The previous holiday record holder, Toy Story, grossed $80.1 million in the opening weekend. In the ten-day run of Potter, the film has already grossed about $190 million.

It has been reported that the author, J.K. Rowling, is about to become the world’s first billionaire writer. According to pagesix.com, the Harry Potter creator is already "worth more than the $994 million Batman franchise and is steadily growing." Not bad for a single mother who was trying to make ends meet when she began writing the phenomenal story of a young orphan boy who learns he is a wizard. With the promise of a seven book series (Rowling is currently working on the fifth book in the series), and almost surely movies to go along with each book, as well as merchandising royalties, Rowling is sure to never struggle to make ends meet again.

Everywhere you look, you see Harry Potter paraphernalia. Lunch boxes, action figures, shampoo, clothing and bedding are just some of the items that are now on sale. You can purchase your very own Harry Potter, Hagrid or Hermione dolls. Also for sale, are the Deluxe Micro Hogwarts School Playset and Professor Snape’s Potions Class Edible Activity Set.
