Scott Weiland Arrested for Battery

Stone Temple Pilots’ lead singer, Scott Weiland, was arrested Monday night after an alleged fight with his wife, Mary Weiland. Weiland was booked Monday on domestic battery charges. He was released after posting $3,000 bail twelve hours later. According to the police report, the couple, who were staying at the Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, got into a scuffle when Mary tried to stop her husband from leaving their room to pick up a prescription. Weiland pushed her against a wall and then stepped on her. She notified hotel security who in turn alerted local police.

Mary Weiland told police she was worried about her husband’s past drug addictions. Scott Weiland told police the prescription was for torn cartilage in his knee and was written by a doctor. He suffers from bi-polar disease, but refuses to take his medication because he claims it keeps him from feeling. Weiland and wife Mary (formerly Forsberg), have a son named Noah.

The Stone Temple Pilots consist of Weiland on vocals; bassist Robert DeLeo; DeLeo’s brother, Dean, on guitar; and drummer Eric Kretz. Their debut album, Core, hit the charts in 1992. The band released their sophomore album, Purple, which debuted at number one two years later. The band, whose influences include Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin and Kiss, combined their heavy guitar based sound with punk attitude. Weiland developed a heroin habit, which landed him in jail and drug rehab. Their third album, Tiny Music…Songs From The Vatican Gift Shop, suffered mainly due to the fact that Weiland was in rehab and the band could not tour to support the album. Three years later, in 1999, the band made a strong comeback with a sober Weiland with their fourth album, No. 4. Their latest album, Shangri-La Dee Da, was released in June 2001.
