Boxing: Khan to Return Against Us
November 25: Amir Khan's first bout since the Olympics, fighting for England against the US in an international in Liverpool, has already sold out.
The Olympic silver medallist Amir Khan's return to the ring, fighting for England against the United States in an international match in Liverpool next Friday, has provoked so much interest at the box office that organisers have already announced it a sell-out.
The 17-year-old Bolton amateur will be competing for the first time since being outpointed in the Olympic final in Athens by Cuba's Mario Kindelan. The demand for tickets has been so great that the venue has been switched from a sports centre to the Liverpool Olympia, a former music hall with a 1,200 seat capacity.
"We could have sold many, many more tickets," said a spokesman for the English Amateur Boxing Association. "But Liverpool City Council have invested heavily in amateur boxing and it is only proper that the city should have the chance to host this international."
Live coverage of Khan's fight, against Michael Evans in the 60kg weight category, will be aired on BBC2 and Radio Five Live.
