Pass the bad football, please!
Despite their horrible records, the Lions and Cowboys will be playing on Thanksgiving again this year. Should this tradition be ended?
On Thanksgiving Day this year, there will be more horrible football games shoved down our throat than mashed potatoes. That's because the Lions and Cowboys are both playing once again this and their combined records are 2-16.
Why not put an end to this tradition? Why not have the best games slated for that weekend shown on Thanksgiving? Personally, the holiday would not be ruined for me if I didn't get to see Ryan Leaf lead the Cowboys to yet another defeat. And I could definitely go without sitting down to a game that features a team that hasn't even won a game yet, even though they've had nine chances.
This year the Cowboys will play the 5-5 Broncos, and the Lions will square off against the 6-3 Packers. Despite what some in the media think, I doubt either of these games will be competitive at all. Brett Favre and the Pack are coming of a tough loss, and should be ready to make a statement on national television. And even though the Broncos have been struggling, I can't see Dallas winning this one with Ryan Leaf at quarterback. That's right! We get two generous helpings of blowouts!
I'm no marketing guru, but I'm pretty sure that if given the chance, people would rather see good football played on national television, instead of what we will be watching this year. And if the NFL can't even realize that, then maybe College Football should step in and we could see something worth watching. I looked at the NCAA schedule for this week to see what the NFL would have to compete against if college football did this, and they would go up against games like Texas-Texas A&M, Nebraska-Colorado, Washington-Miami, and Ohio State-Michigan.
I know what I'd be watching.
The results of this year's Thanksgiving Day games could be devastating.
Picture this... You stuff your face like a pig, then go for the couch to watch football. Now remember, you just downed more food than Nate Newton after he smoked his 200 pounds of marijuana. Then, you see two teams that couldn't beat a prison league team. Actually, that isn't entirely true, I forgot, the Cowboys ARE a prison league team.
But, anyway, back to the story... You watch this for about fifteen minutes, and then all of a sudden it happens, and you end up making Grandma upset because the turkey she worked so hard to make is all over the living room floor.
This tradition definitely needs to be stopped before NFL fans start to say -- I think I'll pass on the bad football, but thanks anyway.
