Hat trick for Eminem at MTV awards

It's Eminem's week. His debut film, 8 Mile, is currently top of the US box office, and last night, the Detroit-born rapper took three major awards at the MTV Europe Music Awards. The singer won the best male artist, best album and best hip-hop artist gongs.

The event was hosted by P Diddy, who saw his ex, Jennifer Lopez, take the Best Female title, while Kylie Minogue secured her title as Princess of Pop by winning Best Pop Act and Best Dance Act.

British band Coldplay continued their run of success, taking Best UK and Ireland Act.

Three Stateside bands Linkin Park, Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Calling all picked up major awards, for best group, best Live Act, and best new act, respectively.

The MTV Annual Free Your Mind Award was presented to FARE - Football Against Racism in Europe. The event also saw live performances from Robbie Williams, Christina Aguilera, Bon Jovi and Whitney Houston. Moby, who was among those who performed live, was one of the first to congratulate Eminem for three awards. Although the two have spent much of the last year feuding, the singer was keen to insist: "From my perspective I have nothing but peace and respect for Eminem."

Meanwhile Sophie Ellis Bexter used the star-studded opportunity to blast her fellow celebrities' penchant for fur. The 23-year-old singer, who was pictured this week holding up a skinned dead fox as part of an anti-fur campaign, said she was horrified to see other stars wearing fur. "I have seen some of the celebrities wearing it tonight and it really disappoints me," she said. "I think it is obscene and vulgar."
