Andie MacDowell Marries Again
Andie MacDowell married a high school classmate, Rhett Hartzog, on Saturday, November 10th in her hometown of Asheville, North Carolina.
After high school, MacDowell left her small hometown for Manhattan. She modeled for magazine covers while appearing in TV ads for Calvin Klein and L’Oreal. She has been seen in movies such as Groundhog Day, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Green Card and Sex, Lies, and Videotape. Her 13-year marriage to model and rancher, Paul Qualley, ended in 1999. Qualley is the father of her three children. After they separated, MacDowell moved from Montana back to North Carolina. Months before her engagement to Hartzog, MacDowell was seen snuggling with her Dinner with Friends co-star, Dennis Quaid, whose marriage to Meg Ryan had also recently ended.
MacDowell and Hartzog, who have known each other since grammar school and through high school, were reacquainted when MacDowell asked Hartzog to lunch in Atlanta, where he worked. They became engaged in July and were married in an evening ceremony at the Central United Methodist Church at the foot of the Smokey Mountains. A reception at the Biltmore Forest Country Club followed.
MacDowell’s 15-year old son Justin, who was on crutches after tearing a ligament playing basketball, escorted her down the aisle. Daughters Rainey, 12, and Sarah Margaret, 6, also were part of the ceremony. MacDowell’s widowed father was to read during the ceremony but was too nervous, so a cousin did the reading. The newlyweds plan to settle in Biltmore Forest, North Carolina.
