Ringworm - Important Precautions!
Fungal infection needs to be taken care of, as it can lead to serious problems such as malfunctioning of brain causing situations such as paralysis etc. Although, ringworm is not dangerous to human being, it is still better to take care of it.
Ring worm, just as name suggests, is not some kind of worm that creeps inside our body, eating our flesh and even it does not drink our blood. Ringworm derives its name from the blotches or rings that happen to surface the victim’s/patient’s body who have got infected with it. The area that is under influence of the ringworm; becomes red and a circular patch shows up on the skin with a clearly visible centre. The fungus that causes the blotch resides just below the patch. The size of the infected area can increase over time. The areas that are affected by ringworm are scalp, body, skin or nails. Initially, the ringworm appears to be just like a pimple or a rash on the skin, but afterwards it starts spreading by getting larger in size.
Ringworm is a fungal infection which is common place in infants and young children. Unlike other fungal infections, ringworm is a simple type of infection which can be cured very easily. Even, no special attention and care is needed to cure ringworm, if it is left alone, our body develops some mechanism/immunity to fight against it just in few weeks and throws it out of our system. However, it is very easy to treat it, with the help of some simple medications we can remove ringworm completely from our body. If the area of infection gets bigger, and becomes itchy with rashes on it, you may need to visit your doctor.
Another reason why it is good to remove the ringworm from our body by using treatment is: because ringworm is highly infectious and it spreads to the body of other victim even if a he/she come in direct contact with the infected person. Even if someone uses towel or something that has been directly used by infected person, there is a chance of the healthy person of getting infected with ringworm.
Pets and open grounds are natural causes of infection of ringworm. If someone comes in direct contact with pets such as puppies, kittens etc having such infectious condition may get infected with ringworm. Sometimes when children play bare footed on open ground, there are larger chances of them getting infected.
Medications used in treatment of ringworm include Anti-fungal creams, pills or liquid medicine which eliminates the fungus from inside the body. You need to strictly follow the instructions of your doctor/physician in treatment of ringworm. Since ringworm is a fungal infection, you should make it sure that the fungus has been completely removed from your body, before you stop taking treatment.
There are some precautions which can help in preventing infection of ringworm to your body such as: you need to be careful when you come in direct contact with other people, make it sure that you do not make a direct body contact with those who are infected with ringworm, make it sure that you do not use objects that are used by infected person, wear slipper or something in your feet when you go out on the grounds as soil is also one of the mediums (though rare) through which ringworm spreads, try to keep your surrounding hygienic, try not to come in direct contact with pets which are most common causes of infection, the infected person should complete the treatment and follow the instructions of doctor, the infected person should not share the objects that he/she uses with others.
Although ringworm is very easily removed from our body, sometimes the infection goes on spreading under the skin of the patient. It is very important to take care of it at earliest otherwise the patches that form on the skin will clear up making your skin look ugly.
