'Plamegate' Reporter Leaves New York Times

Judith Miller, the New York Times reporter criticised by her editor for her role in a Bush administration intelligence leak scandal, left the newspaper yesterday after a negotiated settlement. The details of her severance package were not made public, but the paper agreed to publish a parting letter by her today.

Ms Miller went to jail in July for refusing to name the official who told her that Valerie Plame, the wife of a government critic, was a CIA agent. But after 85 days in prison, she identified him as the vice-president's chief of staff, Lewis Libby, who has since been indicted over the leak.
