Scooter Libby And Valerie Plame
Who is really responsible? Lewis "Scooter" Libby is the first to be indicted in the investigation into who leaked CIA agent Valerie Plames identity to...
Many Washington insiders, as well as a large group of American citizens feel Libby was picked to take the fall for Cheney himself. Cheney, as is well known and documented, was extremely angry with Joseph Wilson over his public discussion concerning his lack of findings in Niger. Cheney, not Libby, is a seasoned veteran insider of Beltway politics and corporate maneuvering. Lewis Libby made $150,000 a year as Cheney's Chief Of Staff. As an attorney and author, he well understood the consequences of leaking such information. What we are seeing here, in this writers estimation, is a cover up to protect those who had so much invested in Iraq, they stooped to destroying a woman's career, to get at her husband. And used Libby as a scapegoat in order to protect his boss Dick Cheney.
Libby's indictment was predicted by a reporter last week in this article:
http://www.conspiracyplanet.com/channel.cfm?channelid=49&contentid=2908. Here is a quote from his column.
"As a postscript and to toot our own horn, as it were, AlMartinRaw.com had the only story in print last week that predicted that Scooter Libby and Scooter alone would be indicted," writes Al Martin, former government whistleblower and author of "The Conspirators: Secrets of an Iran Contra Insider."
In an act of appalling malice, those responsible for leaking Ms. Plames name and her CIA status, endangered her life and those of her two toddler children. Her husband, Joseph Wilson has stated publicly, they are already getting death threats. And for what? Because Wilson reported he couldn't find evidence of yellow cake uranium? The mindset some of the people in the Bush administration are showing is dangerous and disturbing. If you disagree with certain people, they feel it's alright to destroy careers and endanger lives to gain their desired goals.
Two people, both who I believe, had nothing to do with this entire scandal, have suffered severe losses of freedom and employment. Both Ms. Plame and Lew Libby's lives are forever changed by this act. Yet Robert Novak, amongst others, who truly had so much to do with this remain strangely unscathed by it all, while colleagues went to jail. Why?
Since the Senate has decided on a full blown investigation into the allegations that this administration deliberately distorted and misused intelligence information concerning Iraq, and this leak, it is to be hoped that those who are really involved will be held accountable for their disgraceful behavior. CIA is fighting back openly, and this is a positive thing for all concerned. For it has allowed many of us to see and understand what happens when political gaming tries or does influence the collection of intelligence. Maybe finally, the nasty Washington infighting will be shown for what it is .A perversion of our system of open and accountable government. WE elected them, and we can request they step down. All it takes is for us to care enough to write our respective legislators and demand it.
