We'll get 'em next year!

Every year it's the same thing with the Cleveland Browns. With the rest of the division moving forward and the Browns running in place, what exactly is the future of one of football's oldest franchises?
Cleveland Browns fans' souls have been spared another week.

Well, maybe the torture has just been postponed to a season ending with another 6-10 mediocre year for the Cleveland faithful.

Believe me four games under five hundred might be an optimistic point of view when thinking of the Cleveland Browns this year.

It seems these days fans have to decide weather they want to see their beloved Brownies get another one in the "W" column, or watch them blow another game on the way to a better draft pick and maybe a brighter future.

I mean let's face it. the Cleveland Browns are not going to win any Super Bowl this year.

In fact, the Browns aren't on a path to win a super bowl in the next five years.

While the rest of the AFC North is reloading and moving towards the future the Browns seem to be stuck on a treadmill of mediocrity.

Let's think about this logically, all three other teams in their division have young, high first round draft picks that are the future of their club at the quarterback position.

Carson Palmer, while sometimes looking like he's playing a game of hot potato the way he errantly passes into double and triple coverage, has shown signs of improvement and is sure to be a solid quarterback in the future.

We must remember the kid is playing behind the Bengal's offensive line. v Then we have Kyle Boller, who in his sophomore season, has been thrown into the fire of high expectations in Baltimore.

Well, maybe it's more like a candle flame. It can't be that bad to be on a perennial Super Bowl contender, and if all else goes bad just hand it off to that guy standing behind you.

I think Jamal knows what to do with the ball.

Then there is Ben Roethlisberger, who in my opinion is going to be a superstar in this league.

(I had the pleasure of watching him play for the University of Miami of Ohio.)

Unfortunately, that superstardom will happen on the team which Cleveland followers have been raised to loathe. Not good news for the brown and orange.

So, with that being said, what is the future for the dawgs by the lake?

A 30-something year old quarterback, behind a less than average line, and with sub-par talent surrounding him at all positions on the field just doesn't seem to have quite the scripting of a super bowl winner any time soon.

Sure Kellen Winslow Jr. will be a super star in this league and he will no doubt be a automatic force to be reckoned with on the offensive side of the ball, but lets step back and look at the big picture for a second.

This year it's pretty obvious that the Browns are going to be just bad enough to not be in playoff contention but just good enough for them to not have a high first round draft pick next year.

A byproduct of this type of mediocre season is that all the "marquee" quarterbacks will have already been taken.

Thus Cleveland will have to settle for a second tier passer.

This is assuming that the Browns organization provides vision coverage to its front office employees so they can see that there is a dire need for a young quarterback for the future.

Then again, maybe a high first round pick should not be trusted in the hands of the Browns front office.

This is the same front office that gave Cleveland the stupendous first round pick of Tim Couch.

By the way he is no longer playing in the NFL as he was not even good enough to be third string in Green Bay.

Wasn't he starting for the Browns only eight or nine months ago?

This is also the very same front office that also gave fans defensive nosedives like Courtney Brown and "Big Money" Gerard Warren.

When these two have not been on the IR they have about the most expensive journeyman defensive lineman in the league.

It's not like they could have gotten any other quality players in those drafts.

Who are Donovan McNabb, LaDainian Tomlinson, and Daunte Culpepper anyway?

Oh well, I guess its just another year in the life of the Browns fan, right?

Every year they sell out games and simultaneously manage to sell short a city's dreams.

The result of this is a slogan that every Cleveland Browns fan has uttered at least once in their life.

It's so prevalent in the Browns organization that it should be sown onto the shoulders of every jersey on the team.

The bright orange letters would read -- "We'll get em' next year!"
