Don't blame Rush -- ESPN must have been on drugs
Rush Limbaugh is who he is, and ESPN should have known that. ESPN hired a loose cannon who, on top of being a blowhard, was also a pill-popper. Limbaugh did nothing but be himself and his comments about Donovan McNabb were idiotic. However, the man had a forum to express his opinion, and ESPN gave it to him.
So Rush Limbaugh is a pill-popping junkie... allegedly. So tell me something I don't know.
I can honestly say I knew it all along. I could have told you that Limbaugh was full of more than just himself. So much crap comes out of that sewer Limbaugh calls a mouth that I can't believe no one could figure out before this that "El Rushbo" was under the influence of mind-altering opiates. The EIB Network should have made Rush pee in a cup years ago.
The comments Limbaugh made about Donovan McNabb were baseless and idiotic. But, so much of what Limbaugh says is baseless and idiotic. He sees the world in shades of black and white (figuratively and literally, unfortunately). That's the secret behind his success -- and the curse.
Limbaugh couldn't just say, "McNabb is an overrated quarterback," and leave it at that. Limbaugh had to throw in race. Did his comments surprise me? About as much as hearing he's a pill-popper.
The ESPN brass that decided to hire the guy... well, we all know where their heads were at... and let's just say not too much sun reaches that part of their anatomy.
Okay, so who's to blame? Limbaugh for being a "big, fat idiot" like we all know he is, or ESPN for hiring the guy in the first place? At least Limbaugh didn't let us down. He gave us what we expected.
ESPN should have known that Limbaugh would make headline-grabbing comments. We can't blame him for being himself, can we? He did what he was hired to do, and Limbaugh isn't stupid. He knew that making controversial statements on ESPN would translate into publicity for himself, and thus, higher ratings for his god-awful radio show.
So the next time ESPN executives try to hire an on-air personality who knows nothing about football, I have an idea -- maybe they should be the ones who pee in a cup.
