FANTASY SPORTS: Friday Edition Week 6
This is a look at the Fantasy Players who will be suprising people this weekend. This article is backed by extensive research and the fantasy football background of the author.
Being that this is my first article I would like to take this opportunity to preface my columns. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday I will write a column that deals with Fantasy Football insight. This is the Friday edition, which deals with the players I feel will be a strong fantasy performer on the weekend.
Obvious picks such as Kurt Warner (all the Rams), Edgerrin James, Randy Moss… (you get the picture) will not be involved. I trust that you as the fantasy football player already know to start these people. My choices will be players that could break out for with a huge game when otherwise they may just be average fantasy players. Without further ado here are my selections for Week 6 in the NFL.
Start Them
Quarterbacks 1. Cade McNown (vs. NO)- Believe it or not the Saints defense has allowed the least amount of passing yards this season. Based on this one may say, “how can you pick Cade”. The Saints have played the Chargers and Seahawks! These two teams aren’t exactly chasing the Rams for the passing title. Cade looked better last week and will breakout against New Orleans.
2. Brett Farve (vs. Det)- Farve is getting stronger every week and D. Culpepper made the Lion secondary look like your common house cat. Both Farve and A. Freeman are due to break out at some point and with D. Levens status in check the Packers will be forced to pass this weekend.
3. Rich Gannon (vs. SF)- Even though the 49ers defense has looked a little better in recent weeks they are still extremely young and inexperienced. Gannon has not shown the form yet this year that took him to the Pro Bowl last year. If the Raiders plan on staying atop the AFC West he will need to start playing better and a game against San Francisco is just what the doctor ordered.
Running Backs 1. Jamal Anderson (vs. NYG)- I know Jamal is most likely starting on most fantasy teams, but I had to include him on this list. Eddie George ran all over the Giants last week and I think he will do the same thing. After the Eagles drilled Atlanta last weekend, D. Reeves will want to establish the running game early and often. Don’t be surprised if he tests Jamal’s knee 30-35 times on Sunday.
2. Ricky Williams (vs. Chi)- Ricky has been running very well lately and the Bears defense has given up big rushing yards to teams like the NY Giants. Chicago’s defense did have a decent game last weekend but I don’t believe that is going to become a habit.
3. Michael Pittman (vs. Cle)- As much as it pains me as a Browns fan to say it, I see M. Pittman having a good day on Sunday. He is getting his opportunity to win the starting RB job outright and that can pose problems for opposing teams. T. Jones will get some carries too, but Pittman is the man this weekend.
Wide Receivers 1. Andre Rison (vs. SF)- As I said with Gannon the 49er defense is young. They will spend most of their time worrying about T.Brown, which will leave Rison open. This could be a reach, but I see him having a big game.
2. Cris Carter (vs. TB)- I don’t care how good the Tampa defense is; Carter hasn’t gotten off yet this year. He is due and you know the Bucs do not want Moss to get hot. Carter will take advantage of the attention given to Moss.
3. J. Graham (vs. Den)- He had a quiet 100-yard performance last weekend against the Rams. The Chargers will probably get blown out in the game so they will be passing a great deal. With Conway back on the field some of the attention will be off of Graham.
Tight Ends 1. R. Dudley (vs. SF)- See Gannon and Rison
2. S. Alexander (vs. Phil)- This guy was a good fantasy producer last year for a tight end. B. Johnson hasn’t looked his way too much this year, but I think that will change this weekend. The Eagle CB’s are underrated.
Kickers Olindo Mare and Steve Christie (playing each other)- Kickers are too up and down to predict every week. I like to go with the guys that are having trouble in the red zone. Miami and Buffalo are two of those teams. Plus, this game could come down to a field goal.
Defense 1. Denver (vs. SD)- Denver has forced turnovers this year and San Diego has given a lot up. Look for an interception return for a touchdown this weekend.
2. Cleveland (vs. Ari)- This is my “out-on-a-limb” pick of the week. They look great last week against the Ravens, and the Cardinals O-Line is nowhere near as good as Baltimore’s.
