"Titanic" Director James Cameron to Try Space Travel
Director James Cameron, of "Titanic" fame, has undergone space training and has been given the go ahead from doctors to travel into space.
The award winning director, who has also overseen such films as the "Terminator" movies, "Aliens," and who now has produced the popular Fox science fiction series "Dark Angel," will fulfill a childhood dream by traveling to the Russian space station Mir next summer. Cameron has already undergone the rigorous training necessary for the trip to space and has undergone testing at the Russian Institute for Medical and Biological Problems in Moscow.
Though Cameron has not officially contracted with Energiya, the Russian corporation that runs the Mir space station, he is scheduled to dwell there for an extended period of time, beginning in less than a year. If the famous director makes the trip, he will be the first Hollywood celeb to conduct a "mission" into space, though other laypersons have held similar aspirations. A U.S. business man is currently planning a trip to Mir as well, and another Hollywood producer is rumored to have completed a deal to put together a reality-television program that will reward the winner with a trip to the Russian space station.
Cameron, whose popularity soared to unforeseen heights after millions of teen-aged girls vaulted Titanic to box-office success, apparently wishes to extend his role as "King of the World" to the inter-galactic realm.
