It was reported that Lohan and her assistant enjoyed a late lunch with friends and then went on a shopping spree where the paparazzi were stalking her. According to eyewitnesses, Lohan jumped into her car and sped off to avoid the paparazzi. Per a statement released from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Lohan was driving a black Mercedes convertible "when she collided into the passenger side of a maroon Chevrolet Astro van that was apparently turning in front of her."

Said an onlooker; "She came up the street like a bat out of hell. She was nailing it. The guy she hit was making a U-turn to get into his parking place." Reportedly, after being hit the van spun around in the street and then hit a parked car. Lohan and her passenger were taken to the hospital where they were both treated for minor injuries. The driver of the van was taken to the hospital with "moderate injuries."

Leslie Sloane, Lohan’s rep, said, "This is another example of the paparazzi endangering citizens, both Ms. Lohan and the other driver involved in the collision. As the matter is still under investigation, we cannot comment further at this time." This is Lohan’s second paparazzi-related car accident. In May, Lohan sustained a neck injury after her car was nailed by a speeding paparazzo. The photog began pursuing Lohan after she left a Beverly Hills restaurant and after a high-speed chase slammed into the driver’s side of her Mercedes. The state of California has passed a law that will make the paparazzi liable for "triple damages" to any injured victims. The law goes into effect next January, but will it really matter?
