Tendulkar to Miss First Test

Sachin Tendulkar's tennis elbow will keep him out of India's first Test against Australia.
Sachin Tendulkar will miss India's first Test against Australia because of an elbow injury, according to captain Saurav Ganguly.

"Sachin is not playing in this Test match, he will probably play in the next," he said. "We'll definitely miss him. He's a great player and contributes not just with the bat but also with his bowling."

Tendulkar has not played since August's Asia Cup final because of tennis elbow, and though he has been training and receiving treatment, his arm is still weak and has already seen him miss Bombay's tour opener with Australia.

The condition is rare among cricketers but is down to his constant involvement in the game since his Test debut at 16 in 1989. He has suffered various injuries to his back, hand, foot, ankle and hamstring in the past five years.

Tendulkar has scored 9,470 runs in 114 Tests and is just one behind Sunil Gavaskar's world record of 34 Test centuries.
