Clijsters' Career 'could Be Over'

Tennis: Kim Clijsters may never be able to play again after she suffered yet another wrist injury.
Belgian superstar Kim Clijsters' career could be over after she broke down again with a troublesome wrist injury playing in a tournament in her home country at the weekend.

The doctor at the Gaz de France tournament said that the injury-plagued player would definitely be unable to play again this year, and could be forced out of the game for good.

"This injury could mean the end of her career," Bruno Willems said. "Let's be straight: this is a drama for Kim. I hope she comes back, but I'm pessimistic."

Clijsters, currently ranked seventh in the world, was making her comeback after a five-month layoff with an injury to her left wrist, but had to withdraw from Saturday's semi-final against Elena Bovina after straining the arm again.

"I hope I don't have to be operated on again," the 21-year-old said.

She will undergo exploratory tests this week and has pulled out of her four remaining scheduled events for this year, but expressed her hope that she may return in time for the Australian Open in January.
