Iran: Hidden Player In The Terror Game
Iran has been a major player in global terrorism for a long time.
Iran, a fundamentalist Islamic nation, is governed by clerics who hold a radical view of Islam, and an abiding hatred of Israel. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has allegedly issued a clear statement of intent to wipe Israel off the face of the map. When Israel finally ceded control of the West Bank and Gaza Strip to the Palestinians, an immediate influx of experienced jihadists have been observed entering the area. Many of these terrorists are coming straight out of Iran.
Mossad, an arm of Israeli intelligence has picked up significant chatter suggesting attacks are being planned for Israel and the UK. Debka Files has this to say:
"DEBKAfile’s counter-terror sources add that in recent weeks, the British have got wind of Iranian agents making contact with extremist Muslim groups especially in the Manchester region of northern England. They are recruiting terrorists for strikes inside the UK. Observers noted that in the Jerusalem Day hate demonstrations in Tehran Friday, Oct. 28, the number of placards calling "Death to America" and "Death to Britain" outnumbered those demanding "Death to Israel." http://www.debka.com/article.php?aid=1102.
In the full article, which I encourage you to read, 4 reasons are cited for the increasing plans to attack the UK. The main one, in my opinion being, the opening of an UK office for separatists from Iran to cooperate with Britain and Iraq in counter-terror operations.
Iran has long been behind many attacks against Western interests. During the Reagan administration, CIA officer William Buckley was tortured and murdered by Iranian agents, after he was kidnapped some months earlier. Those who heard the tape left behind of his agonized screaming, will never forget or forgive.
As for September 11th, there is little doubt in many minds that Iran played a part in the financing and operational aspects of this attack against America. Bin Laden has been so publicly demonized, that there is a tendency to look no further behind the scenes. If one does delve deeper into this attack, the footprints are there for anyone to see.
This is a steadily escalating moment in history. At stake is the fate of Israel and the strong possibility that we will be hit again. The question is: Can anything be done to prevent or forestall these attacks? It doesn't appear so for the following reasons. Iran despises the West and considers us a true enemy of their state. Israel is hated even more, if possible, and no amount of diplomacy will work to change the current mindset in Tehran. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a seasoned veteran of both Islamic politics and terror. He evinces no evidence of wanting to normalize relations with the West. Given the circumstances, the only reasonable hope we have, is a revolution from within Iran, with a shift from extremist Islamic views, to one more moderate and considered. This may not be as far-fetched as it seems, given the rhetoric coming out of Iran.
There is considerable evidence, that in Iran, the younger generation is tired of the restrictive form of Islam, governing their lives. They are educated, curious and informed, and show a strong desire for change. For the first time, attacks on the interior are occurring, indicating there are those who are willing to risk their lives to change the political climate. Hopefully we will see this trend continue, before an act or acts of major destruction occur. Until and unless this happens, look for more focused disciplined attacks against Western interests here and abroad.
