Decision. Now or Never, Today or No Tomorrow!!
Daily we pass from so many situations. We tackle hundreds of decisions. But have we even been serious to it? Have we understood its meaning? Most of the time we leave on time and we never decide. We don't want ourselves to land up anywhere. And that's why we never reach where we want to be. In fact we never realize where we exactly wish to be.
Destiny
Decision is to define your destiny. Future. What you are now comes from what you have been, and what you will be is what you do now. Said Buddha.
Anthony Robbins said, "It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped."
Examine
Look before you leap. Every decision you make should be the result of nice thinking and examination. Analyze the situation. Decision emerges in process of examination of ideas or alternatives. Japanese make decision through consensus opinions.
Convince
"Nothing is more difficult, and therefore more precious, than to be able to decide". Said Napoleon.
Making decision starts from convincing yourself till other believes in you. Others wait for decision being right till results are published in positive way. Convincing is an art besides making decision and let others believe in you.
Instinct
Maria O'Connor says, "I am a big believer in instinct. Always tell the truth. Make the hard decision first. Just make a decision! But I think the biggest one is, take responsibility for what you do. I have a ruling here: if anything goes wrong, tell me first."
Decision is natural & gut feeling. Every time you may not give strong reason for - why did you do this?
Stick
Decisions are like New Year's resolutions - making them is easy; sticking to them is hard part.
In this job there are times whey you have to stick with a decision and try to get the best deal you can get. It's not that I enjoy the fight - I just like to achieve a good deal for people, for my team. - Chapman
However to be certain is different for your different. But diversion from your decision should not be allowed from your side. Your customers expect you to stick on your decision.
Deviation is another side of doubt. Making a true decision means committing to achieving a result, and then cutting yourself off from any other possibility.
In Time
Time and tide wait for no one. What else? "The key is not to make quick decision, but to make timely decision." - Colin Powell
Others
'We' is most crucial then 'I' in decision-making. John Harvey said "Most business decisions are already far beyond the capability of single minds and single individuals. Business decision making is increasingly a collective operation in which the ability to play as a team member, to listen, to build on the ideas of others and to make two and two equal five rather than three and a half is the key to success."
Pull experience of others; think up ways to get composite judgment through conference groups or surveys.
Richardo Semler quoted " I try to create an environment in which others make decisions. Success means not making them myself."
No Doubt
Be often wrong but never be in doubt. If in doubt, don't do it.
Jim Rohn advised " I don't have much advise to give you about decision-making except this: Whatever you do, don't camp at the fork in the road. It's far better to make a wrong decision the to not make one at all."
The environment a strategic leader will be operating in will be characterized by a number of features. Uncertainty and paralysis due to information overload will be a concern. Technological complexity, both structural and interactively, will characterize organizations. There will be greater ambiguity and uncertainty, less predictability as the future bears less resemblance to the past.
Rather following models or decision-making process, take a break. Understand decision and its harsh. Never jump. Think, proceed and follow.
