Rice, an all-star food
Rice is one of the most important food on earth.
Rice is the most eaten food in the world. Many country populations depend on it for its most basic survival.
Rice cultivation spans for about four thousand years. The first rice crops and harvesting was done in China. Rice became so important in China that general agriculture equated (=) rice cultivation and the word "food" was synonymous with "rice". Then it eventually expanded to India and the rest of the world. It looks like the 18th century Africa-America slave business brought the technology of rice agriculture to the Americas. China and India are still however the world leading rice producers.
A right mixture of warmth and moisture is needed in order to grow rice crops but new varieties of rice grains are being developed recently so that less water will be needed to grow rice crops. This gives a new tool in fighting famine in poor countries.
