O.J. Simpson On the Stand Again
The defense rested its case in O.J. Simpson's latest trial, with O.J. himself taking the stand for nearly three hours of intense cross-examination.
Just when O.J. was finally starting to fade into oblivion, he's back in the courtroom, this time facing aggravated assault charges stemming from an alleged road rage incident in Florida. Simpson is accused of confronting a motorist after he rolled through a stop sign. The plaintiff claims that Simpson became enraged after he and the plaintiff emerged from their SUV's to confront one another. The plaintiff claims that O.J. ripped his sunglasses off his face during the confrontation. O.J.'s version of the story is quite different and he claims that the plaintiff "just puffed up like a bullfrog, got animated and just went off."
In response to a prosecution question about his credibility, Simpson said he can be convincing, but filled the courtroom with laughter when he said: "I don't think I've ever been accused of being an actor." After a recurring role in the 'Naked Gun' series of movies and his now-infamous commercial appearances for Hertz Rental Car, Simpson has clearly established that his talents as a thespian are minimal at best.
Prosecutor Abbe Rifkin asked if Simpson would ever lie, "especially if your life depended on it." Simpson, 54, responded: "I've never been put in that position." When Rifkin began to question Simpson's prior history of aggressive behavior, the judge interjected and terminated the line of questioning. It was ruled that the prosecutor's questioning was ranging too close to events surrounding the murder of Simpson's ex-wife, Nicole Brown-Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman.
