MLB: Yankees Extend Lead To 2-0

The Yankees and the Mets went head to head for Game 2 of the Subway Series. Heres the run down...
The New York Yankees won again in the Subway Series to extend their series lead to 2-0 and their World Series winning streak to 14, an all time high. For the second consecutive night, Yankee Stadium sold out, and put on a show for the spectators.

The Yankees looked comfortable for the win for eight innings, and even the scare of a Mets comeback at the top of the 9th inning never really shook them.

They ran out at the end 6-5 after leading 6-0 after eight innings.

The main talking point of the evening was the on-going feud between Roger Clemens, the Yankee starting pitcher, and Mike Piazza, the Mets’ catcher.

The spark to what might have become a brush fire happened in the first inning when Piazza had a 1-2 count, and Clemens pitched. The ball was hit for a foul but the bat cracked and the barrel of it headed in Clemens’ direction. He picked it up and launched it in the direction of where Piazza was running.

Piazza stopped and slowly walked towards Clemens. As the umpires ran in, both benches cleared the dugout areas and it looked as though there was going to be some sort of action.

To the credit of the umpires, they quickly settled the situation. Clemens was allowed to play on, as the umpires ruled that there was not any intent by Clemens to hit Piazza and so the game went on. No fights or scuffles occurred.

Clemens later said that he was really fired up, and had to get a hold of his emotions. He also said that he never knew Piazza was running and only tried throwing the barrel of the bat in the direction of the batboy.

Clemens went on to throw a two hit shut out after eight innings and took the win for the game, getting nine strikeouts along the way. His career post season record now stands at 5-5 in 16 starts.

Despite a late rally by the New York Mets including two home runs, the Yankees held on for the 6-5 victory. Attention now goes across town to Shea Stadium on Tuesday night for Game 3.
