Thailand Upset by New Christina Aguilera Video

The video shows a (surprise!) scantily clad Aguilera in a boxing ring with a bevy of oiled up studs. But it is neither Aguilera’s sexy clothes nor the racy dancing that has angered officials - it is the fact that posters displayed in the video translate to "Thailand’s sex tourism" and "young underage girls."

Local distributor BMG Thailand will not air "Dirrty" on Thai TV. Although Thailand is known to be a "haven" for prostitution, Thais were displeased with the insinuations. Prostitution is outlawed in Thailand, but police often turn a blind eye to the trouble and arrests are rarely made. Although many in Thailand have become rich off the illicit sex trade, they fear government regulation. Aguilera’s video is a walking advertisement for the sex trade and for that reason it will not be gracing the airwaves. There is no problem here with MTV showing the video on a regular basis.

Aguilera, a former Mousketeer, has progressively cheapened her image with the tawdry clothes she wears and the racy image she projects. Although Aguilera is often touted as the better singer, she always seems to be in Britney Spears’ shadow. Maybe she noticed Brit’s popularity and attributed it to her "barely there" clothing. This year’s Video Music Awards featured Aguilera wearing very little and leaving almost nothing to the imagination. This has been a theme among the more "edgy" divas of late and it will probably continue as long as it continues to sell.
