Some people are more fortunate than others. Some people have food, some don’t. Some people have homes, some don’t. I was significantly lucky, as I had baked beans. None of the other kids in school did. My mum gave me baked beans.

As I took my bicycle and rode to school, I was wondering what I was going to do in school today. I entered the school gate and was greeted by the friendly student. On the odd occasion, I wouldn’t have my homework here at school today, but I felt proud that I did.

I entered the tall, blue building, along with a whole lot of other kids. All the students in my class were seated, and were waiting for the teacher to arrive. Our teacher is always late, so we liked to muck around before she arrived. Of course, there were the weird students, who sat at their desks studiously, and eagerly awaited the arrival of our teacher. That was clearly not me.

The boy next to me was Jerry Lake. He was a tall boy with glasses. I wouldn’t be bragging to say that he envied me. There was one obvious reason for this, it’s because I had baked beans for lunch and he didn’t. Every day he would ask me for baked beans but I refused to share my fortune.

Our teacher thrashed the door opened as she walked into the room. Immediately, we begin to learn about our class topic. Third world countries. She was telling us about how poor Indonesia is, and that it was not fortunate in any way at all. We all learnt that Indonesian people were very poor, and couldn’t even afford to buy a pencil. Needless to say, she was wrong, but since we were the students and she was the teacher, we listened.

Surprisingly, she turned on the class TV (a thing that teachers never do), and tuned into CNN. On TV, we watched the news about the Bali bomb blast. We saw that many people lost their homes, and fortune. While we were watching I was sticking my tongue out at everybody, and boasting about how fortunate I was to have baked beans. Then, suddenly, on TV they were interviewing a farmer, who claims to have not lost anything. I was saying to Cong, how he probably had lost nothing, as he is not as rich and fortunate as I am.

The TV showed his whole twenty four acres of baked beans, and the farmer was saying how fortunate he was to have not lost anything.
