Puff Daddy: Sean "Puffy" Combs Sued for Damages

The recent charges filed against Puff Daddy by a NYC club owner represent only the latest PR black eye for the music industry.
Already in serious trouble with the law as a result of an altercation that took place at the Club New York on December 27, 1999, Puff Daddy was recently slapped with a law suit filed by Michael Bergos, the owner of Club New York. Bergos’ suit is asking for $1.8 million in damages from Combs, claiming that his business and the image of his establishment have plummeted since the December 1999 incident in which Jamal "Shyne" Barrow, Puffy’s protégé, is charged with firing a gun in the bar, injuring three patrons.

Barrow was indicted in January on an attempted murder charge as a result of the incident and Combs is currently facing criminal weapons charges in connection with the gun found in his vehicle by police later that evening. Bergos claims that his client base has declined sharply since the shootings and many high-profile corporate clients have since canceled scheduled events.

Not to be outdone, popular rapper Eminem was in court on October 10 for a pre-trial hearing on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and assault. Eminem (Marshall Mathers), is accused of pistol whipping a man that he had allegedly seen kissing his now estranged wife, Kimberly Scott. Mathers is also awaiting a trial date in Oakland County, Michigan on charges involving the same gun within the same 24 hour period. Eminem is accused of pulling the pistol during a verbal altercation with a member of the Insane Clown Posse.
