Tim Henman has crashed out of the Madrid Masters after a second-round defeat to Radek Stepanek.

The British No1 was beaten 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 to continue his record of never having got past round two in four appearances in the Spanish capital.

Henman missed countless chances to win the first set, before running away with the second and then allowing Stepanek to control the third.

He went into the match with a conflicting record against Stepanek after winning four of their five previous meetings. But the single defeat came just last week as the Czech dumped him out of the second round in Vienna, and he followed up with victory again today.
