Pats D slays Giants again 17-6, but those damn Yankees!!!
eSports Sinista1 saved his review of the last weekend's Pats-Giants game until today due to the Red Sox hype, only to have his heart broken yet again.
Last weekend I watched the Red Sox lose in New York with my oldest son, and then the following Sunday I took my seven year old son to his first regular season game, and he became a man.
We sat in the rain, and he never once complained about the cold or wetness, but he did eat about $20 in food and got a second serving of nachos and cheese for free because the booth was closing up.
He knows I write articles, as he is just starting to get into sports.
He's was even running around the house calling David Ortiz his favorite Red Sox player, while his younger brother is screaming, "Go Yankees!"
I cringe every time he lets it fly, but then I'm brought back to my senses when his brother will give him a noogee or a wet willie for even thinking about those pinstripes.
So we attended the game last Sunday, and once again Head Coach Bill Belichick had everything in order for a game plan. Giants QB Kerry Collins threw for over 300 yards, but for four quarters the Patriots defense played as if they had three strings.
Players were all over the field, and shutting down the Giants when needed like it was preseason all over again.
LB Roman Phifer led the team with 19 tackles, while LB Tedy Bruschi (16 tackles)and CB Ty Law (7t) rounded out the second and fourth spots for the day, but it was S Rodney Harrison who finished the day in the third spot with 10 tackles and two2 interceptions.
My "rook" CB Asante Samuel finished with five tackles despite making some small errors on pass coverage.
NT Dan Klecko (1t) was quiet on D, but did get some more time on offense as he rushed the ball five yards on one carry.
DE Willie McGinest returned to the lineup and finished the game with eight tackles and really solidified my theory about this year's defensive squad.
Right now, some of these young guys are getting a lot of reps that they would normally not be getting if we weren't missing starters due to injury.
If they can keep this up, follow the game plan and continue to win this bench will be deep when guys like Mike Vrabel, Ted Johnson, and Ted Washington return.
The offense is a different story as the defense continues to carry QB Tom Brady to victory.
He made 21 passes and only completed eight...
That's right... Eight for 112 yards and no TDs.
That means I'm only wasting ink by talking about the receiving corps so I won't.
The running game looked positive as RB Kevin Faulk rushed for 87 yards on 14 carries, but had no TDs.
He didn't fumble the ball though, and that was a big plus for Faulk.
Mike Cloud had 23 yards on nine carries with one TD.
This weekend the Pats head into Miami for a HUGE divisional game, and if this team can pull off a win the AFC East momentum will swing this teams way.
Now... ARRRRRGGGHHHH!!!
I've been holding this in for almost 10 hours.
I can't believe what I witnessed in game 7 of the ALCS last night.
Is it me or was everyone sitting in front of their televisions wondering what the hell Grady Little was doing when he left an obvious spent Pedro Martinez on the mound.
And, to be honest, I don't know what hurt more...
Watching the ball go through SS Bill Buckner's legs in 1986 or Aaron Boone's boom clearing the wall in the 11th.
Martinez was clearly tired, and if he had gone out of the game in the seventh, he would have got more respect throwing 115 pitches than the 123 he threw, while also giving up the three crucial hits which turned into runs.
This will probably go down in Boston Sports history as one of the biggest blunders of all time, and it sickens my stomach.
To make matters worse, I had to watch that mutant looking Yankees' pitcher, David Wells, run a bottle of bubbly out to the Babe Ruth mantle, shake it up and soak it down.
Then, I had to tell my son that the Red Sox had lost when he woke up for school this morning, and he was heartbroken.
"They were winning when I fell asleep," he cried. "Now we have to do homework next week!"
"Go Yankees," his younger brother cheered
