Preview - Houston Rockets
The season-ending injury to Maurice Taylor seriously hurts the Rockets playoff chances.
Houston Rockets
2000 Record: (45-37), 5th in Midwest Division
Player Losses: Hakeem Olajuwon, Shandon Anderson, Matt Bullard, Carlos Rogers.
Player Additions: Glen Rice, Eddie Griffin, Terence Morris, Damon Jones, Darren Kelly.
Projected Starting Five:
Center - Kelvin Cato (6'11" 255 lbs.)
Forward - Kenny Thomas (6'7" 255 lbs.)
Forward - Glen Rice (6'8" 220 lbs.)
Guard - Cuttino Mobley (6'4" 210 lbs.)
Guard - Steve Francis (6'3" 195 lbs.)
The injury to Maurice Taylor and the loss of Hakeem Olajuwon to Toronto, leaves Houston without a strong low post threat. Kelvin Cato and Kenny Thomas will have to have career years to replace their production. Luckily, the Rockets have the best backcourt in the NBA with Steve Francis and Cuttino Mobley. They, along with Glen Rice, will do most of the scoring for the Rockets. Eddie Griffin and Terence Morris also will be expected to contribute right away. The Rockets should fight for the last playoff spot, and they may get it if certain players step up.
