United We Stand: A Terror Relief Benefit Concert
Michael Jackson is headlining a terror relief benefit concert on Sunday, October 21st at RFK Stadium in Washington, DC.
In the wake of America’s tragedy, many performers have come together to show their support and to help raise money for those in need. Many benefit concerts have been planned, the latest being the United We Stand concert headlined by Michael Jackson. Jackson is also working on a collaborative album single What More Can I Give whose proceeds will go towards the relief effort.
Performers are to include Aerosmith, 'NSYNC, Goo Goo Dolls, Train, P. Diddy, Mariah Carey, Usher, Rod Stewart, Kiss, James Brown, Al Green, Backstreet Boys, Destiny’s Child and Ricky Martin. Mick Jagger was scheduled to perform at the benefit as well as The Concert for New York benefit headlined by Paul McCartney the night before at Madison Square Garden, but the Rolling Stones front man has reportedly has dropped out of United We Stand. There is some speculation that he dropped out at the urging of McCartney, who has reportedly held a grudge against Jackson for outbidding him for the rights to the Beatles songwriting catalog in the mid-eighties.
This is thought to be the first time the public will hear What More Can I Give, Jackson’s benefit single. The question still remains when the single will be released and who will perform on the track. Reportedly, Reba McEntire, Nick & Aaron Carter, Tom Petty and Brian McKnight have collaborated on the single. There will be English and Spanish versions of the single to be sold nationwide at McDonald’s locations for $2.99. McDonald’s has pledged $30 million to promote the record.
