Hayward keeps on winning: MLR
The Major League Rugby competition is well underway now and one of the hot teams is Bay Area club Hayward.
Oakland-based club Hayward has kept its unbeaten record intact after knocking off another determined opponent in the latest round of Major League Rugby competition.
The former national club champions were on the road for the second week in a row and this time were pitted against a winless Oregon Sports Union (ORSU) in Portland. The Bay Area side ran in multiple tries during the first 40 minutes to enjoy a 31-0 halftime lead, but the homeside did all the scoring in the second stanza.
Sadly for ORSU though, their two tries weren't enough to close the gap and Hayward ran away with the spoils winning 31-12. Hayward has now scored maximum points from all of its games to date and sits atop its division.
Elsewhere, Baltimore-Chesapeake had a bye week in the MARFU Mid-Atlantic fall competition and was at home to Ohio club Scioto Valley, but in the end the visitors won 41-24.
The Chicago Griffins, who dropped a close 24-19 decision to Super League side the Kansas City Blues last week, got back in the winners' circle with a 25-11 victory over Boulder in Colorado.
In the Midwest, the Kansas Jayhawks traveled to Nebraska to take on Greater Omaha (GOATS) and made the trip worthwhile with a 20-14 defeat of the homeside.
And again in Texas there was a mixed bag of results this week for the home teams. The Dallas Reds played host to the Kansas City RFC, but the hosts were routed by their guests to the tune of 38-9.
The El Paso Scorpions were pipped 13-10 by the visiting San Jose Seahawks, while the Austin Blacks were way too strong for fellow Texans the Fort Worth Longhorns winning 77-17.
