Louis Farrakhan, leader of Nation of Islam, accused the US government of "criminal neglect" for its slow response to Hurricane Katrina in a speech to mark the 10th anniversary of the Million Man March.

The leader, 72, urged a class action law suit on behalf of the citizens of New Orleans who lost everything. "I firmly believe that if the people on those rooftops [in New Orleans] had blond hair and blue eyes and pale skin, something would have been done in a more timely manner." he said.

This year's events, known as the Millions More Movement, attracted thousands of black Americans.
