NCAA: Michigan Coach Brian Ellerbe: Just Let the Man Do His Job
By Matthew Allan Hahn Sports Central Columnist
The University of Michigan's head basketball coach, Brian Ellerbe, has been picked on and ridiculed since he was hired four years ago. For what, you may ask? Well, for doing his job and doing probably what every other NCAA coach should be doing.
Three of Michigan's players were involved in a DUI. Kevin Gaines, a key player for Michigan, was driving the car. Gaines was arrested and has since been kicked off the squad and will not be playing with the Wolverines this year.
The two other players who were involved were Bernard Robinson and Avery Queen. Coach Ellerbe has had these two young individuals up at the crack of dawn every morning and running for the roles that they played in the DUI situation. So why all of the criticism? The man is doing the right thing, is he not?
Putting all of these tribulations aside, coach Ellerbe is trying to get his Michigan Wolverines ready for this year's NCAA season. The coach and his staff are trying to put all of the ongoing speculation aside and concentrate on earning themselves and NCAA tournament bid.
Michigan will try to improve on last year's 13-5 regular season record. Although not having Kevin Gaines is going to hurt them and their chances of playing in the NCAA tournament are slim, they see a ray of light in sophomore LaVell Blanchard. Hopefully, this year will be a year to remember in Michigan, and hopefully this year it is not for the wrong reasons.
