New Reality Series: The Surreal Life

The WB has announced plans for a new reality series that will feature "semi-celebs" living in a house together for two weeks.
The WB has announced plans for a new reality series, which will be one part Big Brother, one part The Real World mixed with a pinch of The Osbournes, and a dash of Anna Nicole. The series is set to star the likes of Emmanuel Lewis (Webster) and Mindy Cohn (Natalie from The Facts of Life). These two stars from the past will join 2 Legit 2 Quit rapper-turned-preacher M.C. Hammer, ex- Motley Crue frontman Vince Neil, and ex-Baywatch babe Brande Roderick. Word has it that one more female celeb will be added to the mix.

The show will feature the aforementioned characters living in a house in L.A.’s San Fernando Valley and their daily activities. They will share a bathroom, kitchen and perform various chores. The two-week stay will result in six-episodes of celebrity entertainment. Supposedly, the idea for the show came about from the Lipton Sizzle & Stir commercials featuring an unlikely household of celebrities functioning under one roof. An example of the commercial would be a family of Mr. T, Loni Anderson, George Hamilton and Mary Lou Retton.

The Surreal Life will have more of a flavor of The Osbournes or The Anna Nicole Show rather than The Real World. Producer Mark Cronin of Mindless Entertainment, which will produce The Surreal Life states, "Our intent is to make you feel like you are watching a sitcom." The question is, are sitcoms on their way out? Why not write a great sitcom, rather than throwing random celebrities into life and watching them fumble through it? Is the world so jaded that they would rather watch Ozzy fall over in his chair, cursing at the dogs and his family or the forever-high Anna Nicole running around town making an ass out of herself than watching a good ole family sitcom?
