How to Enjoy Salon Conditioning Treatments at Home
If you have ever had one of those cocktail conditioning treatments prepared by your stylist, you are likely hooked. I mean, those things can work miracles on your hair. And who doesn’t like to be pampered while they relax? While the hefty price tag on these conditioning miracles may not have you running in the opposite direction, your lack of spare time might make it impossible to get treatments on a regular basis. If this sounds familiar, don’t worry. You can do the same treatments in the privacy of your own home.
The key to the salon conditioning treatment’s success is that your stylist mixes a concoction specifically formulated for your conditioning needs. If you need shine, she may mix a little bit of Biosilk’s Silk Therapy with a deep hydrating conditioner. If you need strength, she may mix a protein conditioner with a shine product and then seal it all in with a PH balanced rinse. And the beauty of it all is that everything that your stylist uses to create your conditioning cocktail can be bought as retail at your salon.
Sure, there are many deep conditioners that can be purchased and used individually. While these treatments do a good job, they are not as good as the salon treatment. Your stylist doesn’t want them to be because he or she wants you to continue seeking out in-salon treatments instead. That’s why they use a combination of conditioners to create a special formula just for you, one that you cannot simply get out of a tube of conditioner.
So, if you want a salon-quality conditioning treatment, you will need to create a cocktail of your own. The first ingredient that you need is a base conditioner. If you have dry or damaged hair, choose a reconstructive or protein conditioning treatment that can repair damage. If you have dry hair, choose a conditioner that adds moisture. Different product lines will have different conditioners. If you’re unsure which treatment is used for your hair type, just ask. You will also need a shine conditioning product such as Silk Therapy.
Once you have selected your conditioners, you need to mix them together. A good mixture will contain about 10 drops of shine product to every ounce of conditioner. Work the mixed product through your hair and cover with plastic wrap and a dryer-heated towel. Wait 10 to 15 minutes and then rinse. Do not shampoo out.
You should repeat these treatments about once a week. If your hair is extremely damaged, you may want to do a couple of treatments each week. Good luck and enjoy!
