The Wonder or Alive planet so called ‘Earth’ came into existence roughly 4.7 billion years ago. However appearance of lives was 3.6-3.7 billion years ago. If O2 is important then similarly H2O is too crucial for lives. The sea is crucial for existence of life on this planet. ¾ of our land comprises of water. Where ocean has become life for us in different manners, it has given so many legends & stories, experiences and mysteries too.

This article is to the name of those peoples who were died or affected greatly by ocean’s evil dance. Going further ahead dictating about the elements and stories of sea, let’s have a look on disturbed waves those have taken lives recently in Indonesia, Sri Lanka and India.

Tsunami - Dangerous disturbed waves

Any wave, which is nearly of 20-30 meters height, strong and full of power generated due to disturbances, is called Tsunami.

Earthquakes, landslides, volcanic eruptions or explosions kind of seismic activities could be the reasons after such disturbances.

Scientifically said, wavelength of such wave is around 100 km.
The level of water goes high and no doubt it turns land to island flooding and damaging everything including lives.

Sea-Gods and Goddesses

Sea-deities include mainly Poseidon Oceanus, Pontus, Thalassa (Sea) or Tethys, Forkys, Thaumas, Nereus, Nereides, Oceanides, Triton, Proteus, and Glaucus.

Poseidon was the Lord of the seas, the son of Cronus and Rhea. Poseidon became the King of the Sea and the Islands defeating Cronus. The trident was said to symbolize the third kingdom of the Universe, which was the Sea, i.e. Poseidon's Kingdom. When in a good mood, he created new lands in the water and a calm sea. In contrast, when angry, he would strike the ground with a trident and cause earthquakes, shipwrecks, and drowning.

Poseidon's quarrels with other Olympian gods (Poseidon-Athena, Poseidon-Hera) take place in regions, which are in or near seismic zones even today or were such in the past. He is also said to have created the island of Atlantis as a dwelling place for his beloved Cleito.

Mermaids and Similar Devine

Mermaids are imaginary marine creatures with the head and upper body of a human being and the tail of a fish. Similar divine or semi-divine beings appear in ancient mythologies.

For Greek: A creature half-bird and half-woman that lured sailors to destruction by the sweetness of her voice.

For Indian: A group of water-gods known as the Apsaras, who were celestial flute-playing water nymphs.

For Japanese: Ningyo (mermaid) is depicted as a fish with a human head.

For Irish: Mermaids are known as Merrows or Muirruhgach who lived on dry land below the sea and had powers that allowed them to pass through the water without drowning.

For Norwegian: Havfine are very cruel, tempered and unlucky.

For German: Meerfrau - the Nix and the Nixe who were the male and female fresh-water inhabitants, and it was believed that they were treacherous to men.

Wild Creatures – Are they alive?

The Loch Ness monster is a sea monster found at Scotland. Who knows, is it any survivor of the long-extinct plesiosaurs?

Other wild creatures include Moby Dick - the legendary whale (nearly 85 feet in length) and multi-headed sea serpent.

Mariana Trench
The deepest known point on Earth is at the bottom of the Mariana Trench, a depression in the floor of the western Pacific Ocean, just east of the Mariana Islands. The Mariana Trench is 1,580 miles long and 43 miles wide.

Anne Sexton said, "The Sea is mother-death and she is a mighty female, the one who wins, the one who sucks us all up." Similarly Joseph Conrad says, "The Sea has never been friendly to man. At most it has been the accomplice of human restlessness." Probably it is true.
