Stages Of Life

Life compared to a ticking clock.
The clock started ticking as soon as he was out,
Out from the cozy place they called a "womb",
The womb that had sheltered him for so long,
Long enough for him to think it was home.

The clock kept ticking and it was dawn,
A dawn so kind, he often thought,
Not a single thing he had to bargain for,
This "dawn" he wished, he lived again.

The clock ticked faster and it was noon,
A noon so painful, he often thought,
With academic, labor and matrimonial pangs,
This "noon" really had him scorched.

The clock slowed down and it was dusk,
A"dusk" so peaceful, he often thought,
With little joys and not much to worry,
This "dusk" he wished, was a longer one.

The clock grew weary and it was night,
A night so uncertain, he often thought,
Often he would wake up with a start,
Only to see that the clock still had heart.

The night was ending and the dawn was near,
The clock stopped ticking but he didn’t hear,
From mud he was born and to mud he returned,
Never to see another dawn again.
