Madonna Admits Soft Spot for Britney Spears
Madonna, the recently wed matriarch of pop music is very open about her interest in and support for Britney Spears.
In today's ultra-competitive music industry, it is rare to find one celebrated artist offering unsolicited praise and adulation for one of their contemporaries. It seems that concessions of such admiration are even more rare among same-sex performers. When was the last time you heard Jessica Simpson comment about how much she enjoys Christina Aguilera's new single, or Puff Daddy exclaiming praise and support for Ricky Martin's latest effort? You haven't. That's why Madonna's recent revelations of her love for Britney Spears and her music are so surprising and refreshing.
Madonna alluded to the fact that many of the concerts she sees being performed by the new generation of pop icons lack the energy and flair that characterized Madonna's shows throughout her storied career. Clearly, she sees that same energy in Britney's performances and it has inspired the mother of two to make Britney T-shirts and accessories a permanent fixture in her wardrobe. Madonna unveiled her fascination with the teenage pop diva at her Roseland concert last year, during which she wore a Britney shirt.
In the upcoming February issue of "Elle," Madonna emphatically states her support for the virginal heartbreaker. The queen of pop gushed, "I want to do nothing but support her and praise her . . . I mean, she's 18 years old. It's just shocking. I wish I'd had my s- - - together when I was 18." Looking ahead, Britney can only hope to enjoy the longevity and enduring success of a living legend like Madonna - and it seems that Madonna is willing to do all she can to make that happen.
