Jim Carrey and Renee Zellweger: The Grinch Was Alone for the Holidays

Jim Carrey and Renee Zellweger ended their 18-month romance in December after Zellweger issued a marriage ultimatum.
One of Hollywood’s most talked about couples decided to end their relationship and their marriage engagement sometime in December. Apparently Renee had been unhappy about the lack of direction in their relationship and had confronted the Grinch star over the summer, saying that unless there were serious marriage plans in their future, she was not going to stick around. Carrey reluctantly gave in to his sweetheart and proposed to her shortly thereafter in London, while Zellweger was filming her upcoming movie, “Bridget Jones’ Diary.” Renee gleefully accepted the proposal and plans were tentatively set for a late Spring wedding.

According to insiders close to the struggling couple, there were several factors that contributed to their demise. One source claims that Jim is manic depressive and the wild mood swings associated with the disorder were often too much for Renee to handle. Renee’s temper was apparently another source of tension for the mega stars, and some have described her disposition as stifling.

After the mid-December breakup, Jim departed for Hawaii for the holidays on a trip that was originally planned as a pre-honeymoon getaway for the lovebirds. After the final curtain had fallen on the relationship, Carrey decided that he didn’t want the trip to go to waste and headed to the islands alone to sulk. Renee was apparently just as devastated by the breakup and friends said she holed up in her California home and went on a pizza eating binge to help ease her depression.
