Stockard Channing Busted for DUI

It was reported that Channing, 60, was charged Monday with two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence stemming from an incident in December. According to the California Highway Patrol, Channing was driving drunk on the evening of December 14 at approximately 10 p.m. when she tried to avoid a traffic jam. She pulled her car onto the shoulder and attempted to pass stopped cars. Police had halted the cars as they cleared a broken down tractor-trailer from the freeway. Channing was immediately pulled over.

Officers reported that they smelled "alcohol emanating" from the car and gave the "Grease" actress an on-site sobriety test. She failed the test and had a blood-alcohol level of 0.13, which is almost double the California legal limit of 0.08. She was immediately arrested and spent three hours in county jail before being allowed to leave without having to post bail. Guess that gave her time to sober up and think about what she had done.

If convicted, Channing could face the maximum penalty of six-months in jail and a $1,000 fine for each charge. Sources say that since no one was injured, Channing will unlikely have to spend any more time behind bars. She will only face misdemeanor charges. No word from Channing’s camp on the incident or the charges she faces. Drinking and driving is bad enough, but how embarrassing is it to be famous and caught drinking and driving. Imagine the onlookers during that field sobriety test.
