Men's basketball championship up in the air
The men's college basketball season looks to be wide open this year, with around 20 teams having a chance at winning the championship. Here are four leaders for this year's Final Four.
The men's college basketball season looks to be up in the air this year, with no one team showing the ability to dominate every opponent.
Here's a look at some of this year's contenders.
Duke looked to be the odds on favorite, but they stumbled by 15 to a shaky Maryland team last week.
Speaking of Maryland, they could surprise people in the tournament, but they don't have what it takes to make it to the Final Four.
Arizona looks to be for real as long as they can stay healthy, but they still don't seem to be head and shoulders above anyone and they will need a consistent performance out of Jason Gardner's supporting cast.
Pittsburgh is looking good, but they have not really been challenged. The one challenge they had was Georgia, who beat them. Look for Pitt to exit around the Elite 8 or possibly the Sweet 16.
Speaking of Georgia, they have a tough SEC schedule, but they should be a middle seed in the tournament poised to surprise some teams. Look for Georgia in the round of 16.
Kansas hasn't looked good against any of their quality opponents thus far and they are a perennial flop in the Big Dance. Look for Kansas to lose in the round of 16 at best.
Oklahoma hasn't looked tremendous this year, but Hollis Price is their saving grace. He will bail them out of at least one game in the tournament, so I would look for them in the Elite 8 and quite possibly the Final Four.
UConn looks to be good, but they haven't been challenged yet, just like Pitt. We'll have to wait and see how they do the rest of the season, but I would expect them in the Sweet 16 and an early exit.
And this is just a look at some of the top teams, and I have definitely excluded a lot of possible champions.
The championship tournament this year will be more interesting than ever, and fans will have an even tougher time predicting the bracket this year than any other year.
Here's my stab at the Final Four -- Duke, Oklahoma, Florida, and Kentucky.
