The Gloves are Off: Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger Prepare for Divorce

Once the darlings of Hollywood, if only for a fleeting moment, Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger appear to have reached the end of their seven-year marriage and any hopes of an amiable split are fading fast. Although it would appear that Alec is contrite and searching for a way to mend their broken relationship, it seems that Kim has reached her breaking point and is no longer willing to tolerate her husband’s frequent, and sometimes public, tirades. The most recent documented Baldwin blowup occurred on December 2 outside a Long Island restaurant, where patrons watched in horror as Alec verbally assaulted his wife as they approached the establishment and continued his attack even after they had entered. Kim left shortly thereafter, unaccompanied by her belligerent mate.

The couple was most recently spotted in Athens, where Alec was attempting to reconcile with his frustrated wife at her father’s condo. Sources close to the couple have suggested that there is virtually no chance of salvaging the relationship – the damage is too extensive and the wounds are too deep. Caught in the middle of the firestorm is the couple’s 5-year-old daughter, Ireland. It is the anticipated custody battle for her that insiders say will be at the white-hot center of the divorce proceedings.

Alec and Kim both have well-documented problems that will make for excellent ammunition the other’s attorney in a courtroom. Alec has never been one to restrain his temper and he is notorious for his public outbursts. Kim has struggled throughout her life with various forms of neuroses, including a fear of going outside that resulted in her staying indoors for nearly 6 months. Barring a marital miracle, the ensuing firefight could make The War of the Roses look like an episode of I Love Lucy.
