Sarah Michelle Gellar Loyal to the WB
Sarah Michelle Gellar, the young and beautiful actress who has made "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" a hit, says the show will stay on WB or she'll leave.
Gellar, speaking with reporters about the possible move of the show from the WB network to either FOX or ABC, emphatically stated, "I will stay on Buffy if, and only if, Buffy stays on the WB. And you know what? Print that. My bosses are going to kill me, but print that. I want them to know."
Meanwhile, WB chief executive Jamie Kellner has offered the show's producers, 20th Century Fox, all the revenue produced from the show, noting, "We will take all the revenue we can generate with Buffy, and we'll give it to you in a giant wheelbarrow. And if that's not enough, then take it to somebody else." The success of Buffy has made the show more expensive to produce, with each episode now going for roughly $1 million.
20th Century Fox has considered moving the show because the WB network either cannot or will not infuse adequate financial resources to keep pace with the stars' growing salaries. Interestingly, the WB is owned by AOL Time Warner, the world's largest media conglomerate.
It does appear that the show will remain on the WB, simply because the network is ideal for retaining Buffy's fan base, which consists primarily of young girls, a demographic that is very desirable for advertisers.
